What are the cheapest tickets i can purchase to fly from Los Angeles to Tokyo?

My husband and I want to fly to Japan next year perferrably in October...do you have any recommendations for airlines or websites that offer cheap pricing? Also, if you book through a travel agent, do you have to pay that all at once, or can you pay piece by piece if you are only purchasing airfare? Do travel agents charge fees or commission?
